Cozy winters; Quilt warmth, Blankets on bed; Hot Tea/Coffee fun! and of course those warm cloth! – That is how we are spending our winters. But case is not same for Siberian village people.
Oymyakon, a small village in Siberia is a place whose name was kept after the name of Oymyakon river. The population is just 500 people, or I should say 500 brave people. Here the normal temperature is always in minus degrees in winters. Recently, the digital thermometer in the city broke due to extreme frozing temperature. -62 degrees! I know the math denomination only gave you a goosebumps. But yes the people living there are witnessing such cold situation.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the village was a stopover for reindeer herders who would water their flocks from the hot spring. As a result, the town got its name ‘Oymyakon’ that translates to ‘the water that doesn’t freeze’.
And this was not the first time that such situation happened. Back in 1933 the temperature went below -65 degrees. Also some claim that it is not for the first time that has happened.
Problems like the ink in pens freezing, frozen eyelashes and eyebrows and batteries are common here. There are different issues that the local people of the village have to face. For example, The cars are heated garages or the engines are left running all day for fear of not being able to restart them everyday. Other than this too there are small small things that creates a problem for them. The bonfire is lit just for few hours. And burning something also becomes an issue.
I am sure you you all might be thinking that you are living on a safe place. But those 500 people who even claim the temperature goes own below -70 degrees at times are really brave to handle such extreme situation.
Also in such cases we should also see that we must take good care of our health. Generation of today can not handle something like this. Why? Because we do not follow a god routine for food. And most of us are junk lover. So one must take proper care and eat according to the season.
