The world’s first driverless train could be sooner than you think folks. China is gonna do it for us.
It’s going for another world’s first – their ART is a mix of bus, tram and train, all in one! But guess what- there are no tracks to guide them! Instead it follows dotted white lines painted on the road.
ART stands for Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit. Its being nicknamed as the “Smart Bus” and its 30 meters long. Its fully electric and can travel over 40 km on a single charge. While it’s guided by the white lines on the pavement, the sensors along its route help it follow the ‘virtual rails’!
It can hold about 300 passengers for now and will hold 500 in the future. It has only costed a fraction to build the bus rather than a regular subway at just 2 million dollars. A 4 mile (6.5 km) ART line will be built in the Chinese city of Zhuzhou, with operations starting in 2018.
What is the world coming to! THIS IS AWESOME!
